It's Time for an Adventure with Tangled Before Ever After

By Jo Beth Bootz April 20, 2017

Forget the carpool, dishes, and schedules. Sometimes, I just want to drop everything and go on an adventure. As a mom, especially on beautiful spring days, I find a strong desire to go out and explore the world and see what exciting discoveries are on the horizon. When it comes to Disney princesses, I share this passion for adventure with none other than Rapunzel (we also share a desire to walk barefoot everywhere). When I first saw Tangled, I felt a strong kinship with her on so many levels, especially because she is loyal, adventurous, brave and funny.

When I had the opportunity to watch Tangled Before Ever After with my daughters I was more than excited to open the box and pop in the DVD. Rapunzel is my favorite princess, and I was curious to see what the movie would hold, particularly because is the sequel to Tangled. I think we all wonder what actually happens after the “Happily Ever After” moment at the end of films.

The film didn’t disappoint and provided lots of action, adventure, music, and laughter! Imagine my delight when I had the chance to hear the voices of Mandy Moore (Rapunzel) and Zachary Levi (Eugene) again, sharing the chain of events which began six months later. The movie focused on dreams and how our idea of dreams can change over time.

Rapunzel is finally with her loving royal family, on the path to eventually becoming Queen. While she finally has everything she ever wanted, she struggles to fit into her duties as a princess. From hair to shoes to etiquette, almost everything is challenging for her in the Kingdom of Corona. Thankfully, Eugene is still by her side along with Pascal and Maximus!

At the heart of this adjustment is Rapunzel’s desire to see the outside world and continue to have an adventure. Eugene, however, is different because he knows what the outside world holds and is confident that palace life is truly as good as it gets. Rapunzel, however, feels sheltered and just wants to experience some exciting fun outside the boundaries of Corona.

When Rapunzel sneaks out of the castle, the real adventure begins. While we don’t want to give all the exciting details away, let’s just say some hair-raising magic happens when she returns to the spot where the magic, golden flower was first discovered.

The movie also features new characters and villains as well and provides the perfect set-up for the Tangled animated series. You’ll even have the chance to dance and sing along with some fantastic new tunes and see Eugene’s proposal (which doesn’t go as planned). When the movie was over, my daughters were begging for more of Rapunzel and her adventures. We never want a good movie to end, and it was exciting to know we could continue watching Rapunzel in the series!

Our Favorite MacKid Moment: During the movie, Rapunzel receives two very special gifts from the Queen - The Queen's old journal plus a blank journal just for Rapunzel. We discover the queen loved adventure as well and encourages Rapunzel to find her path. The journal is inscribed with “Plus est en Vous” which translates “There is more in you.” As a mother of girls, this is quickly becoming my new motto to encourage my girls to find their path and discover all the wonder and adventure inside them!
